The British Orthodox Fellowship is open to all who wish to experience something of the Orthodox faith and life in their own lives and at their own pace.

There will be no Liturgy at Chatham on this Sunday as Father Michael is away. But Subdeacons Michael and Peter will be leading Morning Prayers.

News from the Mission Committee

Work is ongoing to produce our four part introduction to the Orthodox Faith. Draft texts of the first two sessions have been produced and been circulated to members of the group producing this resource.

The aim is to have materials available for any of our British Orthodox communities to host four evening meetings in the format of a light meal, a presentation and then a discussion.

Hopefully the final two texts will be completed and approved in September and the first copies of this course will be printed before October.

The British Orthodox Fellowship

This is a new venture promoted by the Mission Committee with the support and guidance of Abba Seraphim.

It is clear that we have many contacts and enquirers who are not ready to become Orthodox, or not even considering becoming members of the British Orthodox Church but who want to be part of our community as far as they are able.

The British Orthodox Fellowship is a dispersed community that non-Orthodox can join and participate in, experiencing the Orthodox way of life as far as they wish and are able.

We are producing a Handbook for the Fellowship and this will hopefully be available for the first members in September.

St Thomas' Orthodox Church, Charlton
Ordination, 11th November 2006

On Saturday, 11th November, at St Thomas' Church, Charlton, many clergy, members and friends of the British Orthodox Church, and members of the British Orthodox Fellowship, gathered for the ordination of Deacon Seraphim Mina to the priesthood by Abba Seraphim, Metropolitan of Glastonbury.

A distinguished ecumenical guest said,

What a blessed and wonderful day. Thank you for the care and love you displayed in preparing and celebrating the occasion of Seraphim's Ordination to the Priesthood. Thank you too for so very generously (and ecumenically) allowing Fr. Patrick and myself to have been granted a part in it all. This was so important to me and I know it was for Fr. Patrick. I also have some idea of just how much it meant to Seraphim.

You will be happy to know that the reactions I have already gleaned from the S. Alban's folk who were present ( as well as from a number of Seraphim's personal friends) is that the whole event was Holy, beautiful and had a wonderful balance of the solemn and the personal. All so very important in darkening days for the whole Christian family of Christ's Holy Church. The sense of fellowship in the Holy Spirit both during and after the service at the lovely and well-appointed reception was palpable - hearts as well as stomachs were filled by the hospitality of you, your clergy and people. LAUS DEO.
