From His Holiness Petros
VII, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa
to His Eminence Metropolitan Bishoy, General Secretary of the Holy Synod
December 14, 1999
To His Eminence Metropolitan Bishoy of
Damiette
General Secretary of the Holy Synod
Coptic Orthodox Church
Ramses Street, Abbassia
Cairo
Your Eminence,
We would like to thank you for your letter dated December 4th, 1999. We
agree with the draft proposal agreement between the Coptic Orthodox Church
and the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, proposed
by your Eminence regarding the Sacrament of Marriage, considering the
official dialogue on Christology between the Orthodox Church and the
Oriental Orthodox Churches, including the two official agreements on
Christology signed in Egypt, in June 1989, and on the lifting of anathemas
and restoration of full communion signed in Geneva in 1990.
However we would like to point out that the
complete title of our Patriarchate is the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of
Alexandria and All Africa.
We look forward for the day that we will be
able to sign the above mentioned agreement and the day that the two
churches will join full communion for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ
and the good of His Church.
With brotherly love and every good wish,
Pope Petros VII, By the Grace of
God,
Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria
and All Africa
